A Note From Linda

As the season changes from summer to autumn, BDIC is also changing.  Director Dan Gordon has hired three new faculty supervisors to better cover all of the concentration areas. We’ve written a little bit about them in the newsletter, and we encourage you to come in and meet the one who corresponds to your particular major.  Also, for the first time I can remember, BDIC has hired all new peer advisors. All of our previous peers graduated last May!  There is some information about each of the new peers in the newsletter, as well.

Under the leadership of our new director, BDIC is truly abuzz with excitement.  Many events are planned for the fall semester, including a lecture by Jonah Lehrer, acclaimed author of  Proust Was a Neuroscientist on Tuesday, November 18, 4 p.m., 101 Campus Center. We hope to see you there!

On November 5, registration begins for the spring 2009 semester. I encourage all BDIC students and also those in the fall proposal writing class to meet with either me or Andrea Bergstrom, our other BDIC advisor.  It’s important to check your progress in your major and to look at possible classes for spring.  For seniors graduating in February or May 2009, it is especially crucial to come in for advising.  Anyone with a G.P.A. below 2.5 will need to pick up a RAC from either Linda or Andrea, and RACs will only be given out if you come in for advising. You can arrange an advising appointment by calling the BDIC Office at 413-545-2504 or by stopping by 608 Goodell.

Are you interested in applying for a BDIC research or travel grant? Due to the generosity of BDIC alumni, we can offer students involved in special projects and those going abroad grants to help defray the costs of their work or travel.  You can pick up an application in the BDIC Office.

On behalf of the BDIC faculty and staff, I wish you all the best for the remainder of the fall semester. We hope to see you all often at our events and in 608 Goodell.
